Hugo Spritz was created in 2005 in the northern Italian Alps as a fresh and fragrant alternative to the then-ubiquitous Aperol. Bartender Roland Gruber originally combined Prosecco, mint and lemon balm syrup, which was soon replaced by elderflower for better availability in bars. This light drink with elderflower flavour quickly conquered all of Europe.
